Things We Take to the Grave
“Things We Take to the Grave” is a gay, love story set against the backdrop of Nigeria’s anti-gay laws. When Martin’s lover, Franklin, dies from leukaemia, Martin struggles to keep his sexuality a secret as he plummets into an overwhelming feeling of grief and existentialism. Then he meets Aliyu, a complete opposite to his bereaved and melancholic self.
Aliyu and Martin start a romantic relationship, but Martin constantly battles with believing Aliyu will ever match up to the memory of Franklin so that he engages in actions that suggest he is unwilling to commit, until Franklin’s ghost appears to him.
