Description
At age 12, Peter Bain had been sexually abused by a beloved coach. When he reported the abuse, the coach accused him of lying then killed himself. A pariah in his school and a liar to his parents, a cynical Peter speaks only to those who believe him.
Just before his junior year, Peter discovers that a late great-aunt has left him secret financial resources—and a mission. Encouraged, Peter goes out for volleyball—the one sport that his father had forbade him to play.
Then he meets Marty, a hidden survivor and liar. Smitten, Peter courts her, and she convinces the current coach to let him play. His playing then carries the team through the district playoffs.
Finding Peter, in turn, gives Marty the courage to free herself from a sexual abuser, setting in motion deadly events that lead to a climax in a district justice’s courtroom.
