Writing Prompt: What's Your Main Character's Resolution?

Now that we're all (hopefully) well-rested and well-fed from the holidays, it's time to look ahead to a new batch of 365 chances to try new things and achieve long-held goals.

I'm sure there are more than a few of you out there who have a New Year's resolution of finishing a novel this year (you go, you WARRIORS!), so here's a fun writing exercise for you to kick it all off with:

If your main character had a New Year's resolution, what would it be?

Basically, what does your character want? Do they want to finally tell their crush how they feel? Do they want to find their place in the bigger world? Do they want to make their family proud? Do they want to avenge their mother's death and exterminate the terrifying horde of people-eating giants that are threatening to wipe out humanity as we know it?! (...Sorry about that one. Just recently became debilitatingly obsessed with Attack on Titan.)

It can be anything, big or small. And if you give your character a goal, you give your readers a reason to root for them.

Now, off with you! Write, write, write!
