Swoon Spotlight: Jen E. — Thoughts on Publishing
Welcome back to Swoon Spotlight! Our daily feature where we introduce you to a Swoon Reads staff member, who has volunteered their time, energy, and enthusiasm to the imprint–while still being amazing at their regular jobs! This week we are shining the spotlight on Jen E. Check back every day this week at 2 p.m. to lean more about Jen, her job, and her thoughts on life in publishing.
What do you think is the most common misconception about book publishing?
Hmmm…I meet a lot of recent grads who ONLY want to work in editorial and won’t pursue opportunities in other departments. I think there is a misconception that you only get to read the books in editorial and that is absolutely not the case. Everyone gets to read the books before they publish (if they want to) in any department so don’t close any doors!
If you could have any other job in book publishing for one day, what would it be? Why?
International Sales. My current job has taken me to places in the United States that I never thought I would go – Arkansas and Minnesota being two of them. I would love to add international destinations to that mix.
What’s the funniest way you’ve heard a friend or family describe your job?
She sells books…not the Harry Potter ones though.
