Finding out about new books before the general public.

What’s your least favorite part of your job?

The commute. I take a car, boat and train to get here every day.

Name some common misconceptions about book publishing.

It’s not all reading, all day.

If you could have any other job in book publishing for one day, what would it be?

Definitely author.

Funniest way you’ve heard a friend or family member describe your job?

“Oh, she works for a Macmillan, you know, they make books.”

Well…we do publish books in English…so, yes?

What’s the weirdest job you’ve ever had?

I once worked for a Direct Marketing company who sold office supplies. Their definition of direct marketing actually meant cold calling door to door sales. Selling office supplies to people who don’t want them during a recession, not so great.

I met a girl at a local nail salon, we started talking about books. Turned out she worked in publishing. We exchanged emails and the rest is history.

What made you want to be involved with Swoon Reads?

Romance, check. Young adult books, check. Sounds good to me.

What do you like most about working with books for young adults?

I like to remember how inspired I used to feel after reading an amazing book when I was a teenager. To be part of creating that experience for teenagers now, that’s just awesome.

What’s your favorite genre of romance?

Historical fiction, by far. Followed by fantasy.

songoflionessWhat’s the first romance you ever read?

The Song of the Lioness quartet by Tamora Pierce. It’s not really a traditional romance – but the romantic factor is definitely in there.

What does your desk look like on any given day?

My desk at work, spotless. I can’t be productive in a mess. My desk at home, however….

What’s a book you wish you’d worked on?

Any of the Harry Potter books, because, I mean, it’s Harry Potter.

What piece of advice would you give your younger self?

Believe in yourself more.
