Swoon Spotlight: Claire T. — YA Romance
As part of our ongoing effort to give you a glimpse behind the scenes of publishing, we have a new feature on our blog: Swoon Spotlight! Every week we’re going to introduce you to a Swoon Reads staff member, who has volunteered their time, energy, and enthusiasm to the imprint—while still being amazing at their regular jobs! This week we are featuring Claire T. Check back every day at 2pm to learn more about Claire, her job, and her thoughts on life in publishing.
What made you want to be involved with Swoon Reads?
I’ve loved romance-y books since I was a tween and never stopped. Plus Jean Feiwel is amazing, so when she offers you the chance to work with her, you just say yes and don’t ask questions.
What do you like most about working with books for young adults?
I think a lot of grown-ups tend to poo-poo YA books because they are supposed to be for teenagers, and I love being able to say “I know, I know, but THIS one is AMAZING” and have them realize how right I am. I also just love sharing books – I have a couple of teenage cousins and I love talking to them about books. I also like the challenge of matching a really good book with the right person.
What’s your favorite genre of romance?
I’m pretty easy to please when there is a romantic story line involved. I do love contemporary (but not if it is cliché, I find that exhausting), and I like a good fantasy romance (a la Finnikin of the Rock) but I can be kind of picky about my fantasy.
It’s gotta be Gone with the Wind. I was on a road trip with my friend and her family. I had this ancient copy I was reading in the car – and I remember I finished it and went back and reread all the romantic parts over and over again. My friend’s mom asked me a couple of times “Are you still reading that?” and I remember blushing.
