Swoon Spotlight: Claire T. — The Basics
As part of our ongoing effort to give you a glimpse behind the scenes of publishing, we have a new feature on our blog: Swoon Spotlight! Every week we’re going to introduce you to a Swoon Reads staff member, who has volunteered their time, energy, and enthusiasm to the imprint—while still being amazing at their regular jobs! This week we are featuring Claire T. Check back every day at 2pm to learn more about Claire, her job, and her thoughts on life in publishing.
What is your official title?
National Account Manager – Sales
Briefly describe your job.
I travel to my accounts and present books to them. I work with Walmart, Sam’s Club and Costco, so I get to go to Seattle, San Diego and Bentonville Arkansas (some places I’m more excited about that others). I meet with the buyers and show them what we have coming out (usually we’re talking about titles that are coming out in 6 to 12 months).
How long have you been in your current position?
A little under two years, I moved to NYC for this job on Cinco de Mayo.
What’s your favorite part of your job?
I love being ahead of the curve, so getting to read books before they are published is one of the biggest thrills for me. I also love going to the covers meetings – so much fun to see all the creativity that goes into what I sell.
What’s your least favorite part of your job?
