Need a Last-Minute Halloween Costume? We've Got You Covered

It’s October, which means our offices overfloweth with “fun size” candy bars, the trees are starting to change colors, and we’re planning our Halloween costumes over our lunch breaks.

Totally stumped about what to be this October 31st? Fear not! Here are some Halloween costumes inspired by our titles that take very little time to pull off.

Diner Waitress from If It Makes You Happy

If you have an apron, a pen to stick in your bun, and a cup of coffee, you’re totally set to go as a Diner Waitress like Winnie from Claire Kann’s If It Makes You Happy. Bonus points if you can incorporate a unicorn seahorse like the one on Winnie’s work outfit.

Alien Princess from Amid Stars and Darkness

I love any costume that combines two things you can easily buy at the dollar store. Green face make up + a crown = alien princess from Chani Lynn Feener’s Amid Stars and Darkness. BOOM.

Hiker from Switchback

If you’re outdoorsy, you probably already have all the things you need to be Val or Ash from Danika Stone’s Switchback. Throw a headlamp on, lace up your hiking boots, and don’t forget a water bottle. And instead of hiking a mountain, you get to eat free candy! Score.

A Bird and a Bee from The Birds, the Bees, and You and Me

Got a friend? You’re in luck! One of you can don a yellow and black striped shirt, the other gets wings, and BOOM—you’re "the birds and the bees" from Olivia Hinebaugh’s novel. Got two other friends you like slightly less? They can be the You and the Me!

Ghost from How the Light Gets In

Is it basic, or is it classic? Why not both? Wrap yourself in some gauzy white fabric, wear some haunting eye make-up, and practice your “Boo!”, and you’re all set to be Chloe from Katy Upperman’s How the Light Gets In.
