Announcing DEFY THE SUN by Jessika Fleck!
Well hello, Swoon Readers! I am so excited to be here on the blog today because, no lie, I’ve been biting my tongue wanting to make this announcement for the better part of a year. If you’re not familiar with how publishing works 👉it’s notoriously slower than an author’s patience threshold.
That said, many of you who’ve read Beware the Night have expressed curiosity, enthusiasm, and in some cases *cough* extreme frustration over whether there will be a second book. ALL of these emotions are valid. Trust me, as the author, I feel them too. For those who haven’t read it yet, no spoilers, but Beware the Night ends with many roads left to be explored for Veda, Nico, Dorian and their fellow Bellonians.
I think you all can see where I’m going with this… THERE WILL BE A SECOND BOOK! Yes, to close out this duology, Swoon Reads will release the follow up to Beware the Night next year. It’s fittingly titled Defy the Sun (swoon!) and here’s what you have to look forward to:
Civil war has come to the island of Bellona.
Veda Adeline believes in the Night. She’s joined the underground revolutionaries and is determined to overthrow the ruling Imperi and find justice for her people.
Nico Denali, Veda’s childhood best friend and maybe-something-more, is one of those ruling Imperi, and he’s just been named heir to the most powerful man above ground.
As the war intensifies, Veda and Nico are both captured by their enemies and leveraged against each other: Veda is above as a hostage of the Imperi and Nico is below, taken by the Night.
The island will burn unless Veda and Nico can come together from opposite sides of Bellona to rip everything apart.
😍 …Right? I am so excited to continue Veda’s journey and even more excited to share it with readers.
*But that’s not all*
WE HAVE A COVER! And the talented Elen Winata has spun her magic yet again! Unlike book one, this book will be told in both Veda’s and Nico’s points-of-view and Elen was able to capture both sides of the story gorgeously in her signature style.
Feast your eyes on this beauty...
Much like the cover for Beware the Night, Elen has illustrated so many elements and themes from the book—this cover couldn’t be more perfect! And I LOVE the juxtaposition of light verses dark when you put the two covers side-by-side. Needless to say, the book cover gods have blessed this author yet again!
I can’t begin to aptly express the gratitude and excitement I have over this duology! This story means so much to me, but it makes it all the more special that I’m able to share it with you all.
