5 Swoon Books Paired with Netflix Holiday Movies

The holidays are almost here, which means it’s time for eggnog, burning fireplaces, and all the festive rom-coms you’ll need to survive the cold, stressful, end-of-year season. Whether you’re turning on the TV because you need some positivity to get you through uncomfortable family gatherings or just watching it because you’re like me and you actually kind of enjoy them, here are five Netflix holiday movies paired with Swoon books!

If you like Holiday in the Wild, you should read...

Just My Luck final cover.jpg

In this movie, a stay-at-home mom tries to rediscover her passions after her husband unexpectedly leaves her. In Africa, she befriends a pilot who just so happens to be the perfect person to remind her why the holidays are a special time of year. Just My Luck by Jennifer Honeybourn is also about unexpected romances, and it’s the perfect light-hearted read for the holidays.

If you like The Knight Before Christmas, you should read...

carols and chaos final

When a medieval English knight gets magically transported to the present day, he falls for a high school science teacher (Vanessa Hudgens!) who is disillusioned by love. This movie pairs very well with Carols and Chaos by Cindy Anstey, which is set in the English countryside in 1817 and is about the relationship between a lady’s maid and a valet.

If you like Christmas With a View, you should read...

how to speak boy cover

My favorite YA trope is a good ‘ol hate-to-love relationship, and this movie and book do it so well! Clara isn’t excited about her new boss, a celebrity chef who is named the new head chef of the ski resort where she works. Of course, Clara realizes that they might have more in common than she first thought. Similarly, in How to Speak Boy by Tiana Smith, two speech and debate rivals who cannot stand each other find themselves unknowingly falling for each other before the state tournament.

If you like Let It Snow, you should read...

my new crush cover

The hit YA romance by John Green, Lauren Myracle, and Maureen Johnson—which follows three teens during a huge snowstorm in their hometown—is finally a movie! And it pairs perfectly with My New Crush Gave to Me by Shani Petroff. This sweet, entertaining book has plenty of rom-com mishaps and holiday magic.

If you like The Princess Switch, you should read...

tiosc

This movie, about a duchess who switches places with an ordinary woman from Chicago a week before Christmas, is a lot like The Invention of Sophie Carter by Samantha Hastings. This charming romance stars two strong-willed sisters who take turns playing the part of “Sophie” in order to stay with their aunt in London. At first the plan works, but soon the girls fall in love with two handsome gentlemen, both of whom think they’re falling for the real Sophie Carter.
