4 Big City Books That Make Me Swoon

We all know those classic, small-town swoony romance books that just melt our hearts—you know, with the cute boy next door or the new girl who just moved to town. But I’m a sucker for love stories that happen right in the middle of a big city, reading about love at first site in the middle of the afternoon rush or adventurous first dates near the Eiffel Tower. After reading these books, I just want to get up and go explore somewhere new! Check out a few of my favorites below.

No Holding Back by Kate Evangelista

I get heart-eyes for best friends who fall in love! Nathan and Preston, who have been best friends since forever, take a trip across Europe that changes everything. Nathan is in love with Preston, but needs a little courage to confess. And a romantic European destination might be just the place to say those three words.

Check out the full description below!

Everyone knows that Nathan is in love with his best friend, Preston… Everyone except Preston.

Nathan has always accepted that Preston was too focused on his swim training to worry about love. But Preston is heading off to train for the Olympics soon, so if Nathan wants his chance at love, he has to speak up now. But saying “I love you” is surprisingly difficult, even for someone as confident as Nathan. Maybe a whirlwind vacation in Europe could help?

But… what if it doesn’t work out and he loses the best friend he’s ever had?

The Way You Make Me Feel cover.jpg

The Way You Make Me Feel by Maureen Goo

This is, by far, one of my favorite summer reads! Set in LA, this book gives me all the feels, from Clara’s sunny California adventures to the delicious Korean-Brazilian fusion cuisine that’s sold at her dad’s food truck—The KoBra (get it?). And can we talk about the way Clara and her cutie Hamlet make me feel?

From the author of I Believe in a Thing Called Love, a laugh-out-loud story of love, new friendships, and one unique food truck.

Clara Shin lives for pranks and disruption. When she takes one joke too far, her dad sentences her to a summer working on his food truck, the KoBra, alongside her uptight classmate Rose Carver. Not the carefree summer Clara had imagined. But maybe Rose isn't so bad. Maybe the boy named Hamlet (yes, Hamlet) crushing on her is pretty cute. Maybe Clara actually feels invested in her dad’s business. What if taking this summer seriously means that Clara has to leave her old self behind? With Maurene Goo's signature warmth and humor, The Way You Make Me Feel is a relatable story of falling in love and finding yourself in the places you’d never thought to look.

The Sun Is Also a Star cover.jpg

The Sun Is Also a Star by Nicola Yoon

Natasha and Daniel only have twelve hours to fall in love, but anything is possible in New York City. Natasha and her family are about to be deported back to Jamaica and she doesn’t have time to fall in love, but after just one look, Daniel knows she’s the one for him. 353 pages, twelve hours, and one heart-throbbing love story for the books. I fell in love with Natasha and Daniel as they fell in love with each other!

Check out the full description below!

Natasha: I’m a girl who believes in science and facts. Not fate. Not destiny. Or dreams that will never come true. I’m definitely not the kind of girl who meets a cute boy on a crowded New York City street and falls in love with him. Not when my family is twelve hours away from being deported to Jamaica. Falling in love with him won’t be my story.

Daniel: I’ve always been the good son, the good student, living up to my parents’ high expectations. Never the poet. Or the dreamer. But when I see her, I forget about all that. Something about Natasha makes me think that fate has something much more extraordinary in store—for both of us.

The Universe: Every moment in our lives has brought us to this single moment. A million futures lie before us. Which one will come true?

I See London cover.jpg

I See London, I See France by Sarah Mlynowski

Here’s another Europe adventure that made me want to pack a bag and fly to France! From London to Monte Carlo to the delicious Belgium waffles in Bruges, Sydney and her best friend Leela hit all of the big cities and meet a cute boy or two on the way. And where better to fall in love than in Paris? Also, I must admit, reading about the food at all of these countries made me hungry!

Check out the full description below!

Nineteen-year-old Sydney has the perfect summer mapped out. She’s spending the next four and half weeks traveling through Europe with her childhood best friend, Leela. Their plans include Eiffel-Tower selfies, eating cocco gelato, and making out with très hot strangers. Her plans do not include Leela’s cheating ex-boyfriend showing up on the flight to London, falling for the cheating ex-boyfriend’s très hot friend, monitoring her mother’s spiraling mental health via texts, or feeling like the rope in a friendship tug-of-war.

As Sydney zigzags through Amsterdam, Switzerland, Italy, and France, she must learn when to hold on, when to keep moving, and when to jump into the Riviera…wearing only her polka-dot underpants.
