Swanson adores contemporary YA fiction that is funny and tender with authentic dialogue. Even as she writes and publishes novels and stories of literary fiction for grown-ups, her heart soars when she writes about teens; her stories often flash back to the characters’ teen worlds that are broken but loved. Swanson’s independently published novel, The Curious Solitude of Anise, was praised by Kirkus and others. Her flash-fiction collection, Mars, was published by Ravenna Press in 2017. Her fiction can be found in many journals including Literary Orphans, Fiction Southeast and Mid-American Review. She holds an MFA in Writing from Pacific University in Oregon and has taught English from middle-school through college. She is the journal editor for Half Mystic Press.
